Updates and Parent Portal Instructions
As we quickly approach the first day of the 2015-2016 school year on August 5, I want to provide you with the latest updates from both Brandon campuses as well as some information that I hope will prove helpful as you prepare to send your children back to school!
The construction continues at both campuses, but rest assured, we WILL be ready for Day One!
At Main Campus, they are expected to have the installation of the HVAC systems completed by July 23 at the latest. The new and improved systems are already fully functional in some parts of the building. Beginning July 24, the crews will begin painting the areas impacted by the HVAC renovation, cleaning carpets, hallways and classrooms and moving items back into classrooms all in time for teachers to return on July 28.
At the Primary Campus, the new classrooms on the main floor are fully built, and work on the new Media Center continues. We expect the Media Center also to be completed by the first day of school. The playground was beautifully installed behind the school, so students will be able to access it right away, and a temporary walkway was built so that students can safely walk with their teachers to the field avoiding the construction site that will be in place while the addition is built throughout the year.
We remind you to be patient with parking at the Primary Campus this year as it is an active construction zone all year. Please be mindful of any areas marked as non-parking zones.
This year, we will not be posting class lists. Rather, we are asking parents to log in to Parent Portal to view their child’s Homeroom Teacher. I will send out a Remind text once the information has gone “live” and is available for viewing. Our target date is by end of day on July 24. If you are not subscribed to receive text messages from the school, directions for signing up are at the end of this letter. Additionally, if you do not have a Parent Portal account, directions for creating one are also included at the conclusion of this letter. Please sign up for an account so that you can access your student’s Homeroom teacher from any computer or mobile device as soon as they are posted! If you have any trouble with the process, please call the Main Office of either campus for assistance.
I want to thank the 500 plus parents who completed a Parent Input Form this spring. I am very proud of and confident with the process that we used this Spring and Summer to create balanced class lists that intentionally match teachers and students based on student learning style and need. The process was a true collaboration among teachers, administration and parents, and I believe that the result is well- created classes! Please be reminded that all new Kindergarten and returning 1st-5th grade parents had the opportunity to complete and submit a Parent Input Form between mid-March and April 30. All forms submitted were carefully considered. Because of the strategic process used to create balanced classes, no requests for teacher changes will be considered. Thank you for respecting and understanding our process.
Celebration of Learning
August 3 from 5:00-7:00 PM is our back to school Celebration of Learning event. This is an evening to bring your children and meet their teacher and classmates. This event is a “come and go as you please” style event, so you may come to either campus at any time during that window. All faculty and staff will be available on this evening as well as PTA volunteers. You will leave with a folder provided by PTA with all of the needed Day One Forms. Please be sure to read the contents and return ALL forms to your homeroom teacher by the due date.
Curriculum and Instruction
This year we are excited to be implementing several of the curriculum and instruction programs that we worked on developing last year. You can expect your child to be engaged in a Balanced Literacy program that includes explicit phonics and grammar instruction, guided reading, and writer’s workshop. You can expect that your student will make use of technology and computer based learning to work on reading and math individually tailored to their level of performance, and you can expect that we will share results of all assessments with you and that teachers will use assessment data to plan their instruction. We will continue to use Everyday Math as the foundation for our Mathematics instruction and plan to spend this year examining our instructional practices in Math to inform our school wide Mathematics plan for future years.
Arrival and Dismissal
By July 27th, we will be posting our Student Handbook online so that it is accessible to all families. In it, we will detail all school policies and procedures. One area that will be clearly defined is the arrival and dismissal procedures at each campus. It is critical that all those who come to the school in the morning or afternoon to drop off or pick up students adhere to the published protocols. They will be enforced from Day One and will be continually enforced all school year. Each policy and practice created and implemented has been done so with student safety as the priority. Please be aware that our carpool line will be the only place for students to be dropped off or picked up during arrival and dismissal. Again, the details will be made available via our Student Handbook which will be posted online and will be shared in a Back to School blast. Thank you for your cooperation and support of student safety.
Thank you for taking the time to read about all of the activity at Brandon as we prepare to welcome students on August 5! See below for information on how to receive text messages and sign up for Parent Portal access! Enjoy the final weeks of summer, and I look forward to seeing you soon.

Sign up for Parent Portal Access
Parents can now get their own Parent Portal Activation Key through a new online application. Please sign up for Parent Portal via the new application. This portal gives you real time access to your child’s schedule, grades, and attendance.
Homeroom teacher assignments will be made available to you via Parent Portal. A text message will be sent when they have been made “live” for viewing!
Keep in mind the following:
- Parents will need the Student Number found on the student’s report card or transcript.
- The portal activation application also requires the student’s social security number (SSN).
- If you did not provide your child’s SSN at enrollment/registration, you will need to contact the main office during open school hours to get your child’s assigned SSN-like number.
- This number cannot be provided over the phone.
- You will need to present a valid photo ID to obtain their number.
