Bees Buzz Despite the Chill!

Greetings Parents and Community Members,

I wanted to take a moment to say thank you for support as we navigated a holiday, into a delayed start right into asynchronous Wednesday. Yesterday, even with a two hour delay, we got all our students in the building on time, adjusted their schedules so everyone still got to go to Specials, everyone still received lunch and we even had time for a 30m recess. We even dismissed using our new carpool app PikMyKid! As we continue to shorten our dismissal time, I want to remind everyone that AM carpool ends promptly at 8am moving forward. Furthermore, we are still beginning dismissal for carpool riders at 2:05 but that does not mean that everyone has to arrive at 2:05! If you are waiting in line a long time, or simply don’t like the congestion, we run carpool all the way until 2:45 and we recommend coming a little later when there are less cars.

Our hope is that by the end of next week, we can shift to a 2:25 dismissal so our students can get in a full day of learning. Don’t forget that we need ALL parents to download the app, even those in the virtual setting, as this will help us streamline our communication, handle change of dismissals and even push out notifications to everyone’s correct cell phone numbers.

I also want to highlight an exciting activity happening today. All of our Kindergarten and 1st grade students have received a copy of the book, Mirror Face by Jordan Gillman and Michael Tyler. Mirror Face is a wonderful picture book that promotes social emotional learning while teaching children to love themselves independently of the opinion of others and how to build their inner voice of confidence through self-affirmation. These books were given to all pre-k, kindergarten and first grade students throughout the district. Today, there will be a virtual event celebrating the book. The authors of the book will join Dr. Herring to launch the worldwide #mirrorface challenge. CLICK HERE to find out more information about the event! All grades are welcome to join! PDF versions and info on today’s reading will also be posted in our students Google Classrooms.

As we move to the end of the week, I want to remind everyone of two town halls coming Friday, Surveillance Testing starting at 10am and Virtual Learning (geared toward our virtual families) starting at 11am. Please join us if you are able to attend to learn more about the great things that are happening at Brandon. I also want to remind you that the Quarter 4 Intent to Return window will reopen today and close on March 8. If you are happy with your current learning selection, then there is nothing that needs to be done. If you would like to change to in person or virtual learning, please make sure to update your selection by March 8. More information is forthcoming from the district. Lastly, since we are in the midst of budget season and staffing conferences, we are going to cancel our February 25 GO Team meeting and will pick back up on March 11 for our budget approval meeting. Interested in running for GO Team? Declarations are now open HERE. We need one parent or guardian to join our team next year.

I hope everyone has a great rest of the week! After next week’s Beemail, I will move to a bi-monthly Principal update, so don’t be alarmed if you don’t hear from me every week. I’m always an email or phone call away.
