First Week in the Books!

FROM PRINCIPAL BLAND – We’ve had a great start to week two! As we begin to move away from beginning of the year rules, routines and procedures, we are now making way for Eureka math, Social Studies Weekly, Stemscopes (science) and our new ELA curriculum Wit and Wisdom. I’ve loved getting into classrooms and seeing all the wonderful activities that are taking place at both campuses. Students are analyzing texts at the upper grades, recording “what they know” and “what they wonder” about stories they’ve read, and engaging in meaningful academic conversation while also writing out their thoughts and ideas on paper. I’m also seeing handwriting at the lower grades, some beginning cursive and always our Saxon Phonics piece. I was SO impressed walking into Ms. Fallon’s 2nd grade class today. Her students were able to identify whether vowel sounds were long or short and able to mark them with Breves and Macrons! We had a fantastic room parent meeting (and it was HIGHLY attended :), a great new teacher mentor meeting and we are all anxiously awaiting our back to school night when we can come back together and discuss whole class and grade level logistics! A couple of notes below:

  • Our new Super Special schedule will be starting on Monday for the Main campus. Each quarter, one grade level will have an extra 30m a day of Art or Music. All grade levels will get an extra 30 minutes a day of PE. The day (1-8) will dictate which homeroom attends. I value specials and our specials teachers and know that this extra time will help give our students a more rounded education in line with the IB curriculum. We are looking at ways to expand this to our Primary campus. More info to come from your child’s teacher.
  • In an effort to streamline our student attendance and tracking system, we have set up an attendance hotline. While notes to the teacher regarding absences are still acceptable, we are hoping that this hotline, checked daily, will help us code your absences easier with less work from you and the teacher! Simply call 404-802-7292 and follow the prompts. Please keep in mind that no matter the absence, it will still count toward the states 90% rule. All students are expected to be present 90% of the time they are enrolled.

I look forward to seeing everyone at our Back to School night(s) next week! As always, please reach out to myself or a member of our admin team with any questions or concerns you have. Don’t forget to follow us on twitter and at my school Facebook page for all things Brandon!
