BEE in the Know!

Greeting Parents and Community Members!

I hope that everyone had a great, restful and family-orientated Fall Break! I’m so glad that we were able to get a few short days away from school to help gear up for the next 6 weeks leading up to Thanksgiving! Yesterday marked the beginning of the second quarter of the 2021-22 school year. I hope that this quarter will be the best one that we’ve had in a long time. Now that our students have learned our processes and procedures, we are set up for success, and we are looking forward to everything that lies ahead for us.

I am excited to announce two new hires which will help us continue supporting our students and staff. While Mr. Carr has done an incredible job of supporting the art needs of 7 grade levels across two buildings, we’ve recommended Xan Jordan to be an additional art teacher that will work under Mr. Carr until she finishes her student teaching at GSU. She will begin full time at Brandon beginning in January. We’ve also hired a new Assistant Principal that will start next week! Our new AP, Kate Nails, will support both buildings and has been a long time employee of Atlanta Public Schools. Our interview committee scoured resumes and interviewed candidates for over three hours last week in order to find the best fit for our school, and I believe they have! Stay tuned for more info on our two new Brandon Bees!

With so much happening in the next few months, it was so great to see all of our students participate in Walk to School day this morning. Seeing hundreds, yes hundreds of students, parents, and siblings walking to school safely this morning was an awesome sight! While International Walk to School Day may have been last Wednesday, it was definitely today for this community of students and families, so thanks to everyone that participated; pics coming soon! We also have Fall pictures scheduled for all students tomorrow, Thursday, October 14. Additionally, I want to send a big thank you to all of our families who plan to participate in our Main Campus cleanup initiative this Sunday. Led by our awesome PTA and Foundation Presidents, there will be plenty to do to help re-beautify our back playground, so come out and lend a hand if you can! Don’t forget we have our HIVE rallies coming up on Friday October 22, Red Ribbon Spirit Week, which kicks off on Monday, October 25, and Book Character Dress Up day on Friday, October 29. You can find more info on our Red Ribbon Spirit Week activities HERE. While the Book Character Dress Up parade will be for Kindergarten students only this year, look out for a live streaming link in next week’s BeeMail so parents can Zoom in to see their students during this Morris Brandon tradition! And finally, our DLI Kindergarten students are very excited to bring you our DLI Hispanic Heritage recital, this Friday, October 15 at 8:30am. Parents can stream the performance HERE.

Additionally, if you are a 4th or 5th grade DLI parent and want to learn more about Sutton’s programming, be sure to attend our in-person informational meeting, hosted by Sutton Principal Gail Johnson, on Thursday October 21 at 5:30pm in our Main Campus gymnasium.

As you can see, there are a lot of informational and fun events ahead of us! Continue to have a great week and be on the lookout for more information on everything Brandon in the weekly BeeMail and Remind texts!

Take care,
j
