BEE Thankful and BEE Safe Over the Break!

Greetings Parents and Community Members!
It’s been a great week since we last spoke! Our students continue to learn, our families are enjoying our Thanksgiving Feasts, and teachers are happily moving toward the week long break! Our French teachers are already preparing our students for our annual holiday performances (more info below), and most grade levels have already transitioned into their next Wit and Wisdom units. Our 5th grade gifted teacher, Dr. Porter, brought the African American Museum of Iowa directly into her classroom, and Mr. Carr’s 3rd grade students are creating amazing chalk pastel creations! Our PC media center Media Specialist, Katie Ingram got a ton of new books as we gear up for the holiday season!

What is most exciting though is that we are halfway through our Thanksgiving Family Feast luncheons! We can’t wait to welcome all of our Main Campus families on Friday!! If you are an MC family member attending, please plan to arrive no earlier than 20 minutes before the luncheon to collect your ticket as we will hold you in the Media Center until all students are sitting in the cafeteria. We’re on a tight schedule but will have plenty of time for all families to join in the fun, eat a great meal, and listen to some entertaining music. Also, since the weather outside is getting colder, please remember to send your children with jackets, hats and gloves. Be sure to label them with your child’s name and homeroom teacher. Students are allowed to go outside when the temperature is above 32 degrees. We will use our best judgment at 40 degrees but want to make sure everyone is prepared for outdoor recess. Also, in the event that school should ever be canceled, you will get multiple correspondences through text, email, robo call and Remind. Our teachers are currently putting together a plan regarding our outside of school work program called WeatherWise. This is work that is to be done at home should school be canceled and not need to be made up. The plan will be communicated soon. Stay tuned!

Since Thanksgiving is right around the corner, I wanted to take a moment to talk about all the things I’m thankful for! I’m most thankful for our awesome students who come to school each and every day ready to learn and grow! I’m thankful for an amazing staff and teachers who go above and beyond the call of duty. I see them working hard and many stay late after the school day is over, tutoring, preparing for the next day and planning engaging, thought provoking lessons for our kids. Furthermore, I want to thank our parents for all you do to support our awesome neighborhood school. We wouldn’t be who we are without you!

Have a safe and restful break!
