Greetings Parents and Community Members! What an amazing past week we had in the Hive! Our time was filled with amazing instruction like in 4th grade where I saw students writing about the different perspectives of the Colonists and Loyalists as they wrote opinion papers on how certain characters felt about the Boston Tea Party. We had an AMAZING Kindergarten Hispanic Heritage Recital led by Ms. Halliday and Sra. Estrada’s DLI classes, and of course the best Fall Festival I have ever been to!
I saw gifted strategies in 1st through 3rd grade for ALL students from identifying text features through a scavenger hunt with Dr. Strickland to Ms. Chu and all of 2nd grade as they kicked off their 2nd module in Wit and Wisdom. Students looked at different perspectives, building background knowledge and even sorting pronouns to determine 1st, 2nd and 3rd person points of view- WOW! Ms. Lu, one of our amazing music teachers worked with 5th grade as they learned about music dynamics through a fun way to quiz students- by making fortune tellers! And we even had time to celebrate Atlanta United day which led into our Red Ribbon Week.
All of these awesome learning opportunities, extensions and remediation could not be possible without our rock star teachers, so be sure to say “Thank You” when you see them! I also want to keep everyone posted on the final logistics for our Family Thanksgiving Feasts. Last week I posted the dates for each grade level and below you will find more information. Please take note that flyers will be coming home with students today with all the information needed. There is a two adult maximum per student and money must be turned in between 10/24 and 11/22. You can also pay in the media center the day of the event but prepay is preferred. The cost is $5 (cash only) per adult and all Brandon students will eat free of charge!
I look forward to another great week at the Hive and don’t forget, our first quarter HIVE RALLY will be held this Friday at both campuses so be sure your kids wear their colors!
Until next time
