Have a Great Break!
Greetings Parents and Community Members!
And just like that, 2019 comes to an end! This past week we celebrated our students including 4th grader Ava Runinen who won the first ever Morris Brandon Geo Bee. This event was led by former student Henry Djuric. Henry planned every little piece of the Geo Bee, from practice to competition. The Geo Bee constituted his Eagle Scout project. I’ve seen dozens of different Eagle Scout projects over the years but Henry’s was unique as it not only directly involved our student body but was also the first of its kind at Morris Brandon. Shout out to Jennie Lane, our teacher sponsor and all of the students who participated in this awesome event!
We also celebrated four published authors at Brandon. Teddy Kelly, Mitchell Masters, Elena Sladkus and Margaret Whitis all participated in a poetry contest and their pieces were selected to be published in the National Scholar Society’s prestigious student anthology, Award-Winning Young Writers of America 2019-2020. The work was spearheaded by 4th grade gifted teacher Carla Kendall. Way to go Bees!
Aside from that, we kicked off our 10 days of Holiday spirit wear, had our first Holiday concert of the year at the PC, and we just downright got into the holiday spirit! I was able to host my 2nd quarter Principal coffee talk, saw dozens of prospective parents touring our school, and even taught some Hanukkah lessons in our Kindergarten classes! Also, in case you didn’t know, we got new water dispensers at both campuses. Be sure to have your kids bring water bottles labeled with their names and homeroom teacher as our new hands free dispensers help us conserve water, limit waste, and help us from spreading germs. Thanks to your donations our awesome Foundation was able to support this awesome endeavor!
I could not have asked for a better first semester. The hard work and dedication our teachers and students put into our school every day gives me new energy every time I enter the building. Next semester will bring even more excitement! We’ll be introducing our new reading dog program in collaboration with Reading Paws and our media specialists will get a new MC gym floor over break!
I hope everyone has a great, restful and fulfilling time away from school. Please be reminded that all students are expected back bright and early on 1/6/20! Remember to have your children read daily and of course, log all minutes in Beanstack on the MyBackpack platform. We’ll be sending home a flyer with instructions so you know how to do this too! Hopefully, with your participation we can win the district initiative for the 2nd year in a row!
Happy Holidays from your Brandon Bee Family!
