Keeping Up With Our BEE’s

Greetings Parents and Community Members!

A LOT has been happening at the HIVE, and I’m excited for the chance to share it with you! Instructionally, our students have been getting all of the help they need to be successful. Our morning Intervention and WIN block has taken off, we’ve completed the Fall MAP window and shared our preliminary data, and we are excited to begin the 2nd Quarter in just a few short days! MAP data has given us great information to help guide our instruction and tailor our teaching to our students’ needs. Additionally, if our students require additional social, emotional or behavioral help, we’ll hopefully identify it through our BASC-3 Social and Emotional Screener using the triad of data from you (our parents), our staff, and in our upper grades, our students! These needs are often addressed through our bi-monthly CARE team meetings (student support) and SAC meetings (Student Attendance Committee).

We had a great GO Team meeting last week where I was able to deliver positive news about our staffing, budgeting, and schoolwide updates. I am thrilled to announce that we are moving forward with hiring two new positions, an art teacher and an Assistant Principal! This is all made possible by Federal CARES funding, which substantially helped alleviate the pressure of leveling, a budget process that we go through at the beginning of every year. As a reminder, all GO Team updates and minutes can be found on our Morris Brandon webpage HERE.

As we move into the month of October, I am excited for what’s to come and thankful for the awesome staff, students and parents that make up the Morris Brandon community. Don’t forget that we have our first Walk to School day next week on Wednesday, October 6. I want to see all of our students walking or riding bikes! If this means that parents park down the street, then please do!! We are also making a big push for HIVE spirit, so be sure your child knows what HIVE color they are. Most students adopted the color of their kindergarten teacher, but students may adopt their current teacher’s color of blue, green, orange or yellow. Don’t forget to wear HIVE colors on Fridays! We will have our first HIVE rally on Friday, October 22, followed by our first Spirit Week of the year and of course, Book Character Dress Up Day on Friday, October 29 (more info to come soon)! These events are possible because of our stringent mitigation efforts and limited COVID cases over the past several weeks. Last week, we tested nearly 500 students and staff and reported only 1 positive case.

I hope everyone has a great week leading into next week’s Fall Break, and that you are able to spend a restful few days with family. We’ve all earned it!

Until next time,
j
