Greetings Brandon families, parents and community members!!
It has been a BUSY summer up at school. As you may or may not know, there have been many new additions to the Morris Brandon family and I am extremely confident and excited in the faculty and staff that are joining our family. To give you an idea:
- There are thirteen new teachers and support staff
- One new Program Administrator
- One new Assistant Principal
- One new Literacy Coordinator
- And one new Principal 🙂
Totaling SEVENTEEN NEW BEES joining the hive!!!!
While I understand this is quite a change all in one year, I want you to know that the absolute best staff have been chosen based solely on one overarching theme, WHAT IS BEST FOR OUR STUDENTS. Trust me when I say that with the amazing staff already in place, paired with the exceptional new ones, your children are in EXCELLENT hands!
I want to take a minute to introduce to you our latest hires. Dwight Hutson will now serve as the Program Administrator for the Primary Campus and Fume Ekpere will serve as the Assistant Principal of the Main Campus. Dwight comes with twenty years of educational experience all within APS. He was a model teacher for the World Languages Department and has served as the Assistant Principal at Sutton Middle School for the last six years. Aside from being well respected by his peers, students and parents within this community, he is also fluent in Spanish and was part of the case studies of Dual Language Immersion that APS conducted when the district was deciding whether DLI would be a good fit for Atlanta Public Schools several years ago. Fume also joins us from Sutton! While this was just a coincidence, both of these candidates rose to the top during our interview process. Fume is entering her 9th year in education all within APS. She bases her educational philosophy on equity, multicultural pedagogy and prides herself on building a school-wide community with positive culture at the forefront. I am so happy to have these two join our team and cannot wait to get started on an AMAZING SCHOOL YEAR!
I want to invite EVERYONE to a new leadership meet and greet that will be held at the Primary Campus Friday, July 20 from 10:30-11:30am. Take a minute to come meet our leadership team and if you can’t make it, that is OK (though please note that Fume officially starts on Monday, July 23 and will not be at the meet and greet on Friday). We are always available to schedule an appointment and are just a phone call away. Updated emails and staff lists will be on the website shortly.
I also want everyone to know that some people may have seen class lists this past Friday on the APS app. While this was a district-wide glitch, the assignments were correct for those who had access. The app has now been set to last year’s grade until all schools are ready to announce teacher assignments, which will happen no later than July 28 on the APS app and on Infinite Campus. If you have difficulty doing this, we will have all of the necessary info for you at our Celebration of Learning on Monday, July 30 from 12-2pm at both campuses. This is a time when you can come meet your child’s teacher, bring in your class supplies, and learn more about our school and instructional program.
With that said, the Main Campus Secretary, Tomi Thompson, will be out on leave during the week of July 16. If you need assistance, you can call either campus but note that all of the phones are being forwarded to the Primary Campus. You can also touch base via email at email@example.com, Dwight Hutson (PA) at firstname.lastname@example.org, or Tameka Small (AP) at email@example.com.
