Update from Principal Jay Bland

Atlanta Public Schools (APS) HAS NOT made a decision on the reopening model for Fall.

We have been told that a decision will be made in early to mid July. A decision being made this late may seem odd, but with the ever-changing landscape, a later decision may be beneficial.

Morris Brandon’s reopening plans are contingent upon what APS determines. We will not deviate from that plan, but we may adjust to fit our school and community needs.

When a decision has been made, I will send a Beemail the day of or the day after. I will include Zoom links for grade level virtual meetings in which my team and I will discuss Brandon’s reopening plan. These meetings will be held in late July, and they will be recorded for playback.

All APS fields and campuses are still closed. I continually get messages from APSPD regarding teenagers on our fields. Trashcans are overflowing with beer cans and our caution tape and signs are being torn down. They also send me photos of the young adults

. Please make sure people are aware.

Please remember that Assistant Principals do not return until Monday, July 20 from Summer break. All other staff will return on August 3.

In the meantime, if you need ANYTHING, please reach out to:

  • Me: jbland@atlanta.k12.ga.us
  • Dwight Hutson: dehutson@atlanta.k12.ga.us
  • My secretary Tomi: ttthompson@atlanta.k12.ga.us

Until then, please do your best to maintain healthy habits like social distancing and wearing a mask in public in order to help better our chances of returning in person in August.
