A Few Buzz-y Weeks Ahead!

Greetings Parents and Community Members!
It’s been a big week back in the Hive! We pride ourselves on teaching to the whole child at Brandon.  This comes in the form of SEL morning circles, relevant and meaningful instruction and celebrating our students when they exhibit the behaviors and outcomes that we want! I saw this throughout the week in Ms. Richards 5th grade class. Her students didn’t just learn about science but were actually BECOMING scientists when they explored movements of the earth’s crust in our Main Campus science lab.

Ms. Kendalls 4th grade gifted students finally passed their board exams and became Brandon Cardiologists, and our Kindergartners honed their catching skills with the two best PE teachers around, Coach Wyman and Coach Patton. We had a “Mix-it-up” day led by our school counselor Ms. Whitaker. She had our students in grades 3-5 wear a color coded bracelet and told them to sit at a table with like colors. It was great seeing students make new friends, meet children they’ve never talked to and just be kids! Of course, it all culminated at our first quarter Hive Rally on Friday! Students had a chance to be celebrated for exhibiting the IB Learner Profiles (Communicator, Open-Minded, Risk Taker and Principled) as well as celebrating Accelerated Reading (AR) success and of course, perfect attendance! Our teachers even got in on the fun, so be sure to ask your child which color won!

I’m also excited to announce that our College and Career Readiness Performance Index (CCRPI) score for the 2018/19 school year was made official on Friday and is a 96/100. Morris Brandon’s score remained in the 99th percentile in the state and I’m super proud of all the students, teachers and staff that made this possible. From admin, teachers and paras to custodians and bus drivers, it truly takes a village. We hope to continue to improve our score as we work day in and day out to give every student what they need to be successful. I summarized all of the talking points on an easy to read one pager found below so please read for a detailed outline of our score.

I look forward to our Book Character Dress Up Day on Thursday and can’t wait to see all of the amazing costumes showcased in our Kindergarten parade! Don’t forget to stop by the media centers and check out the awesome book character pumpkins!

Until next time!
