Greetings Parents and Community Members!I trust that everyone had an excellent and enjoyable impromptu long weekend and were able to watch the Braves parade either in person or on live TV. I’ve lived in Atlanta my whole life, and I vividly remember the 1995 World Series celebration and the great run of the 90s. It’s been too long for our city, and I’m proud of America’s team!
Don’t forget that this Sunday, our Morris Brandon Jamboree is back and better than ever! Bring the whole family out to support our school, and encourage your neighbors who may have young children coming to Brandon to attend as well. I want to give a big shoutout and thank you to all of our parents that have signed up to volunteer their time, and especially to our Jamboree planning committee that has worked so hard to bring this to life. I can’t wait to see everyone on Sunday!As we move toward Thanksgiving break and then the end of the year, we have a lot on the horizon – most notably MAP Growth testing, which begins on November 29. Our new universal screener will allow our teachers, staff, and administration to see true growth from August to December. It will also give us a meaningful data point to use for student support moving forward. The MAP Growth data will be a focus point for our January conferences as well, so stay tuned for more information on when those will be scheduled. Additionally, the Georgia Department of Education has recently released the student, parent and school personnel survey. All students in grades 3-5 are encouraged to take this survey and will be given the opportunity to do so during their regular technology Specials rotation. Parents in these grades are welcome to preview the questions HERE. If you would like your child to opt out (Grades 3-5 only), please print and return the Passive Parental Permission Form HERE. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to our Main Offices. Parents may complete their portion of the survey HERE.Finally, we are reaching the private school application window. If you will be applying your child to private school, we respectfully request that all recommendations be shared through the RAVENNA system (no paper copies) and that the student information sheet found HERE is also downloaded and emailed to myself (jbland@apsk12.org) and to our school counselor Ms. Whitaker (tjackson@apsk12.org).
