BEE Thankful!

Greetings Parents and Community Members,

As we inch closer to Thanksgiving break, I am excited and encouraged about all the great things that are happening at Morris Brandon. We continue to greet our students each day on our morning announcements that can always be accessed HERE. Last Thursday November 5, Kyle Farmer of the Cincinnati Reds recorded a video for our kids, providing words of encouragement during this virtual time. A former MBES graduate and member of the jump rope team, Kyle recognized Coach Wyman for the impact the Jump Rope team had on his life. Be sure to check it out!

Our upcoming virtual Spelling Bee coincides perfectly with the reopening of our Media Center as well. Don’t forget that students are now able to build their vocabulary further by reserving and picking up books from our Main Campus Media Center using MyBackpack. Take a look at THIS instructional video from our Media Specialist Ms. Lander to learn how.

As we gear up for Thanksgiving, in typical Brandon fashion, there will be a variety of fun and engaging activities for our students to take part in throughout the week. Take a look at THIS document to learn more. Our students will focus on everyday kindness by uploading videos to Flipgrids, participating in a gratitude scavenger hunt and running a self-paced MBES Turkey Trot! The week will culminate in a school dance at 11am on Friday November 20. More information to come from your child’s teacher.

Lastly, you will recall that when APS announced that we would remain virtual through at least January 2021, we also shared that we were continuing to explore ways to support our highest-need learners, particularly our special needs population, English language learners, Tier 3 intervention students, and our youngest students, including their potential return to some in-person services prior to January 2021. In follow up to that commitment, the District has developed guidelines that will allow our school to launch face-to-face interventions for our highest-need students beginning the week of November 16. Our intervention plan is aligned to and in support of APS’ whole-child framework and will include small select groups of students that will receive in-person interventions twice a week on Tuesday and Thursdays. If your child qualifies to participate, they will be contacted by a member of our school staff with more information. As always, all recommended health and safety guidelines will be followed.

Be sure to check out our school website landing page HERE for more information around intervention and activities leading up to a January 2021 reopening. Until then, please let us know if there is anything you need.
